Portrait painter David Bernéy was born David Bernstein in early 20th century London, the family later relocating to New York City. He used photographs to create large scale oil portraits. His commissions were “captains of industry” of the 1930s-50s, their wives and children. Bernéy was active on the east coast until 1955, then relocated to Los Angeles, where he continued his portraiture and opened a gallery at the Biltmore Hotel. He died in July 1965. .
